April 20th- April 24th
This week we will begin our 6th and final reading unit. We are nearing the end of 3rd grade. This week the student council is doing their school spirit week to encourage everybody to collect funds for the Pennies for Patients, remember this can be any loose change that you may find, or it can be cash and checks too.

Tuesday- Professional day
Wednesday- Twin day
Thursday- Armed forces day
Friday- Dress like a teacher day.
 
Student planet essays are due On Wednesday April 22nd. This should be done mostly in class, but it might have to be taken home if students need additional time. The home  extension part of the planets is the persuasive brochure. Students are to create a brochure that either attempts to sell a vacation to their planet or attempts to sell property on their planet. This is a tri-fold brochure, including fun facts in a persuasive style. This is due Friday April 24th

April 13th- April 17th
This week we will be doing our unit benchmark test, so there will not be a basal reader story. The spelling words for this week are on the yellow high frequency list from hard- prettiest. In place of a reading lesson this week we will be doing a research project on planets. Each student will draw a planet and do a research project. There will be two parts to the project, first the students will write an essay and then they will create an ad or persuasive brochure.
 
*This week we have our monthly swim on Thursday the 16th.
 
*Please sign and return the screen-free form every day.
( I will not include research as screen time as long as students are reading information about their planet.)

April 6th - April 10th
    Welcome back from spring break and into our 4th and final quarter of 3rd grade. I hope everybody had a fun and relaxing break. This quarter will be very fast and busy. We are planning our field trip and fun activities to keep students excited and engaged.

March  23rd- March 27th
    This is the last week of the third quarter. WOW where has the time gone?  This week we have a bunch of fun activities planned. With our reading book we will be making bagels. If there are any parents the would like to volunteer to help make dough for the third grade classes please let me know. We will be preparing and eating the bagels on Thursday during our P.T.A. sponsored movie.
  Friday is an early release, so we will be doing our testing on Thursday.
  A.R. goals will be cut off on the Monday that we return to school from spring break. I will send updates home on Thursday so you know how many points your child will need to reach their goals.

March 16th-March 19th
   This week we will be doing the math section of PAWs. I would like to thank all of you for making sure that your child was well rested last week and so far this week. The students seem very focused and excited about the testing. The last day of testing will be Thursday. There will not be any SAWs this year, which was the writing section of the test.  We are doing a reading unit this week in class so there will be limited homework, just spelling words.

March 9th-March 13th
   This week we begin PAWS testing. We will begin the week with a whole school celebration on Monday and begin our testing on Tuesday morning. Breakfast will be served to all students on testing days.  We will be leaving our classroom at 8:30 to have breakfast as a class then we'll go to specials. Testing will begin at 9:20 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure that students are getting plenty of sleep.
 
   This week we will not have any reading to bring home, this also means that there is no spelling words or weekly tests to worry about. The students will not be filling out their assignment notebook, but if you need to contact me I will check them daily.
 
   We will not have swimming this week, it will be rescheduled do to PAWS.
 
 
 
 
March 2nd- March 6th
This week we will continue to practice skills for the PAWS testing that will begin on March 9th. We will begin with the reading sections of the test on March 9th- March 12th. Attendance is very important during these two weeks so please try your hardest to make sure your child makes it to school. If you know that your child will miss a day please let me know so that I can arrange a make up time.
 
Monday the 2nd is an early release day.

February 23rd- February 27th
As PAWS testing nears we will be working with a lot of test prep materials. You can access materials at home with your child at www.prepdog.org and at www.pearsonsuccess.net. All of the students know their log in information for Pearson success and there is no log on information required for prepdog. Please take a few minutes a night and review multiplication facts with your child. This week we will be moving into divisions and the relationship between multiplication and division. If students do not know their multiplication facts they will struggle with division. Homework this week will be workbook pages from the math text. Students will work with 2 different factors a night. These sheets should not take more that 10 minutes combined.

February 16th - February 20th
This week we are taking the unit 4 benchmark test and there will be no basal reader story. Instead students will be reading non-fiction texts and identifying features in the texts. Quarterly A.R. point goals have changed to independent goals, please check your child's assignment notebook to find the new goal. Any points achieved outside of the goal will be rewarded with 1 dojo dollar and an invite to the reward party at the end of the quarter. This week we will be studying and testing over 3rd grade high frequency words.  I sent home a list with the students and they will be tested over the first 40 words (afraid- goes).
 
I will be sending home math homework this week, please make sure that your child is completing the work. This should only take about 5-10 minutes a night but is very important. Also please be practicing multiplication math facts daily with your child.

I want to thank all of my parents for coming in and meeting with me during conferences. It was nice to touch base with everybody and know that we are on the same page. January 26th - January -30
    Welcome to the 3rd quarter of school!!!! We are half way to the fourth grade and all of the students have shows exceptional growth. I am very proud of all of them for their hard work the first half of 3rd grade.

     This week is a short week, with no school on Monday. We will still have all of our normal tests on Friday so this means the students will have to keep up their hard work.

   With the first part of the year behind us I am planning a few changes in the classroom. I will no longer be sending weekly behavior reports home unless you want them. They were a great tool to help develop classroom management but  are no longer needed. I do still track behaviors, but I don't feel that sending reports is necessary.

     I will be sending home weekly updates on A.R. points and I am requiring that all students have 5 points per week. This will help them all reach the 40 point goal for the quarter. Students should be able to easily reach this goal by testing on our basal reading story, leveled readers, reading groups and about 30-45 minutes of reading each day at home.

Parent teacher conferences are on February 5th and 6th.  Sign up sheets will he going home on Wednesday the 28th. Please get these filled out and returned as soon as possible. If there is a specific time that you want to meet please make sure to note it on the letter and get it back as soon as possible. I will be scheduling on a first come first serve basis.

January 12th - January 16th

  After a busy week of testing we are all still alive. Last week the students began their winter M.A.P. testing for math and showed great growth. We will be continuing with reading M.A.P. testing on Wednesday.
  This week is going to busy, as we begin our 2 week swim. The students will need to bring their swim gear every day for the next 2 weeks. They will be able to hang their gear in the hallway daily to dry, or bring them home to be washed every day. It is you choice so please let your child know what you want them to do.
  This week also marks the end of the first semester, so Friday is a half day and there will be so school on the following Monday. Students need to be working on their A.R. goal which is 40 per quarter, I will be available for additional testing and reading times. Please let me know how I can accommodate your needs.
 
Also I will be scheduling conference times for Thursday February 5th and 6th this week so please let me know if you have a special time in mind.

  December 15th - December 19th This week is going to be a busy, fun filled week. We will have a typical week with reading, math, spelling and grammar, except we will be testing on Thursday so we can celebrate on Friday. For the party on Friday the 3rd grade class will be swimming from 10:30- 11:30 then returning to the class for a taco feast and a short celebration. The afternoon will be a normal day with small reading and math groups. Please have students start bring in their assigned food for the party. If you are unable to provide the assigned material which are taped inside their assignment notebook please let me know.

December 8th -December 13th  
With Christmas approaching we have a very busy schedule. This week  the third grades will be practicing and preforming their Christmas music concert. We have our monthly swim and Santa's Workshop.
 
Special events.
 
1. Tuesday December 9th at 6:30 Music concert at Kemmerer High School. Students need to be at the High School at 6:10.
 
2. Monthly swim- Wednesday the 10th. Please send students with suit and towel. 
 
3. Santa workshop- Thursday  afternoon- Please make sure students come with the money that the are allowed to spend in their special little envelope.
 
4. Math test- Wednesday the 10th, over telling time, counting back change, elapsed time and calendars.
 
The Christmas party will be on December 19th from 9:30 to 12:50, we will have taco lunch in the classroom. Please make sure that your child brings in their assigned ingredients  so we can all enjoy some yummy tacos. If you are not able to provide the specific ingredient please let me know in advance so I can bring it in.

Wednesday November 26th will be our 1st quarter homework celebration.  If your child has been invited they are welcome to come into the class at 7:30 for donuts and dancing. I have announced the students that earned this reward and they know who they are. If you have questions please feel free to message me on Dojo. Please drop you child off at the doors by our classroom. If your child has earned the reward and is not here, or can not make it in they will still have a donut. Thank you and sorry for the short notice.


November 24th- November 26th

Since this week is a short week we will not have our typical read, spelling or grammar tests.Instead we will be reviewing and testing on unit two reading, writing and grammar skills.
November Book It calendars will be due the Monday following Thanksgiving break.  Please have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.



November 17th-November 21st
 




This week we are starting unit 3 in our reading books, which means that the big unit test will be given next week. The students have made a collection of vocabulary words from the unit that they should be studying.
Our chapter 3 math test will also be this week, the main focus is adding and subtracting numbers with regrouping. We are doing the review pages from the back of the book in class and I will be sending home extra practice.
The A.R.  point goal for this quarter is 40 points, please make sure that your child is reading at home every night, I am available before and after school for extra testing times if needed.

November 10th- November 14th
I want to thank all of the parents that I was able to speak with during conferences, and I hope that everybody is spending a few minutes a week viewing our class site. This week we will have our monthly swim on Thursday as well as our classroom root beer float celebration from red ribbon week.  For science this week we will be exploring flight, and every student needs to have 1 20oz or larger bottle and 1 foam egg carton (dozen). If you have more than one of each item feel free to send it to ensure all of the students in 3rd grade will be able to participate.

November 3rd- November 7th
Wow we are already off to the second quarter! Last week was a huge celebration and success for our class. We won 2nd place in the school for Red Ribbon Week and will be celebrating with a root beer float party. We ended up winning camo day, red and black day, tied for PJ day and won crazy day. The class was also rewarded "the class of the month" for P.E. for always being ready for class and eager to learn.
 
As we start this semester the students A.R. goal will be 20 points again, so please encourage your children to read book that will count for points. If students need to schedule extra time in the classroom to take tests please let me know. I would like the students to be reading chapter books. They should be earning about 2 point a week from independent reading.

 
Parent teacher are Thursday and Friday, I have sent home your scheduled time. If there are any questions please let me know via e-mail od through dojo.

September 29, 2014

This week will be a very busy week in 3rd grade. Monday is an early release. Tuesday is our field trip to Fort Bridger. We will be loading the buses at 8:15, please make sure that your child has turned in their permission slips and has $2.00 for admission to the museum. Students will be allowed to spend some money on the field trip if permitted by parents.  Wednesday and Thursday will be normal days followed by another early release on Friday, due to homecoming. GO RANGERS!!!! With all of the extra activities this week we will still have our normal Friday tests.  So the students might have to put a little extra study time at home.
